The History of DC's Hispanic LGBTQ Heritage Celebration

The annual Hispanic LGBTQ Heritage celebration has become a staple event anticipated by DC's Latino/a LGBTQ community. Early October is a special time as an intersection between Hispanic Heritage Month and LGBTQ History Month, which allows us to celebrate our rich and diverse identities and increase the visibility of LGBTQ Latinos/as among the broader community. Each year we seek to create a space for today's community members to learn about those important leaders and organizations who came before us to advocate on behalf of human and civil rights for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Latino communities. In the past LHP events and programs have been supported by outstanding partners such as, the Mayor's Office on Latino Affairs, the Mayor's Office on GLBT Affairs, Verizon, Gertrude Stein Democratic Club, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Lambda Legal, Town Danceboutique, the Historical Society of Washington, DC and Bloomingdale's among other sponsors.
