The Latino GLBT History Project organized a Latino LGBTQ retreat for members and volunteers. Edgardo Guerrero, advisory board members facilitate the retreat and we have the participation of David Camero and Lucy Murphy with an artistic show. Jose Gutierrez gave a presentation focused in the history of the Latino LGBTQ community.
May 29, 2008, Presentation about the Latino LGBTQ community to 22 students from the University of Wisconsin-Madison at the Holiday Inn of Dupont Circle in Washington, DC.
Jose Gutierrez and Salvador Vidal-Ortiz, Ph. D. presented a 2 hours presentation with panels, banners, bilingual brochures and the Timeline of the DC Latino LGBTQ community. This presentation was a great opportunity to educate students about our history. We cover different issues at the presentation including Latino transgenders, bars, activists, Latinos LGBT groups, writers, and LLEGO. After the presentation we have an active participation with the students with questions from the audience.
June 13, 2008, DC Latino Pride at Human Right Campaign, Equality Room.
The Latino GLBT History Project presented DC Latino Pride at Human Rights Campaign. The Program included special guests: Mercedes Lemp, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Latino Affairs, Christopher Dyer, Director of the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs and Chuy Sanchez, Spanish Media Strategist from GLAAD.
David Camero, Tabitha Joyner and JB Wallace presented a bilingual poetry performance.
The Community Panel was moderated by Laura Esquivel, Senior Vice President for Political Affairs of the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund with local and national activists: Nelly Morales, David Pacheco, Lazaro Solorzano Jr. and Salvador Vidal-Ortiz. Eva Young, advisory member interpreted the panel discussion. Catalina Sol from La Clinica del Pueblo, Tabitha Joyner form Break the Cycle and Antonio Pineda from Andromeda a great speech and an overview of the programs and services that they provide.
Our advisory member Leti Gomez gave a wonderful closing remarks. Mr. Luigi Buitrago from the HIV/AIDS Administration gave us condoms, and we gave 800 condoms to the audience. We reached 250 people at this Cultural event. Club Fuego sponsored the DC Latino Pride dance. Anaconda Couture, Victoria Armani, Diana Bustillo, Tamara Garcia and Victor Claros performance an spectacular show and donated the tips for the Latino GLBT History Project.
Club Fuego donated a part of the covers to the Latino GLBT History Project. Thank you Club Fuego, Hector and Mr. Phillip. We reached at Club Fuego 572 Latinos LGBTQ.
In Saturday, June 14 2008 for the first time we marched at the DC Gay Parade with seven members. In Sunday, June 15, 2008 we set up a booth at the DC Gay Festival and we recruited 83 people.
March 24, 2007. “Construyendo Comunidad” (Creating Spaces)
Maria Amelia Viteri from American University, invited us and other groups to participated with an historic exhibit and a panel discussion about our Latino GLBT community. The panel discussion was moderated by Dilcia Molina, the discussant was Maria Amelia Viteri and the panel was formed by Letitia Gomez, Imaya Gabriela Garcia, Jose Gutierrez, Enrique Perez, Omar Reyes and Juan Noboa. We have a positive feedback from students at the American University.

April 21, 2007, Presentation about LLEGÓ
Unid@s, the National Latina/o Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Human Rights Organization invited the Latino GLBT history Project for they first board of directors meeting at the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. Letitia Gomez and Jose Gutierrez gave a presentation about LLEGO and presented magazines, documents, banners, brochures and memorabilia from LLEGO. We took the opportunity to take a few pictures of the first historic meeting of the board of directors of Unid@s in DC.

June 8, 2007, “20 Años de Lucha – 20 Years of Struggle”.
The Latino GLBT History Project with the support of the Capital Pride and Human Rights Campaign (HRC) presented: “20 Años de Lucha- 20 Years of Struggle” a panel discussion and a historic exhibit at the Equality Room of the Human Rights Campaign. The panel discussion was composed by prominent key leaders: Eva Young, Yolanda Santiago, Letitia Gomez, Omar Reyes, Frank Yurrita and Jose Gutierrez, the discussion was moderated by Mario Acosta-Velez. Guest speakers included: Mercedes Lemp, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Latino Affairs, Councilmember Jim Graham and Christopher Dyer, Director of the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs. This event was really productive for the participation of our leaders and activists and because we have more than 150 people that attended the event. This event was sponsor by Latin@s en Accion and Gertrude Stein Democratic Club.

September 14, 2007, Hispanic GLBT Heritage Month 2007 “Fotos y Recuerdos”.
The Latino GLBT History Project and The DC Center celebrated for the second year the Hispanic GLBT Heritage Month with an historic exhibit “Fotos y Recuerdos”. The program was conducted by Lisbeth Melendez-Rivera and we have a performance by Sherrie Van Crawford and David Camero. Our guest speakers include Ivan Ortiz Torrez Fernandez, Language Access Coordinator of DOH and Christopher Dyer, Director of the Mayor’s Office of LGBT Affairs presented a proclamation letter from the Mayor of the District of Columbia Mr. Adrian M. Fenty. Michael Sessa, President of the DC Center and Jose Gutierrez, Director of the Latino GLBT History Project welcome the audience. “Fotos y Recuerdos” was at the Center from September 14 to October 15, 2007. In this particular activity the group formed a Host Committee, which they help us to support the activity.

Latin@s en Acción invited the Latino LGBT History Project to participated with an exhibit about the Latino LGBT community during the DC Gay Pride Weekend at the Office of Latino Affairs (OLA). This exhibit gave the opportunity to the new generation of Latinas/os LGBTQ to learned about our history, culture and leaders. We estimate that we reached more than 50 people.
September 15, 2006. Hispanic GLBT Heritage Month 2006 “Ven a la Casa”.
The Latino LGBT History Project, The Center and Latin@s en Acción celebrated the Hispanic GLBT Heritage Month with an historic exhibit at The Center from the mid 80’s to 2006. We honoree the follow leaders for they multiple contributions: Leticia Gomez, Yolanda Santiago, Rick Mendoza, Frank Yurrita, Linda Carrero and Sophia Carrero. Darlene Nipper, Director of the LGBT Affairs presented a proclamation Letter from the Mayor of the District of Columbia, Mr. Anthony A. Williams.
The speakers were: Ted G. Loza, Chief of Staff of Councilmember Jim Graham; Mario Acosta-Velez, Co-chair of the Human Rights Campaign; Michael Sessa, President of The Center; Jose Gutierrez, Director of the Latino LGBT History Project and Dr. Joseph Palacios Board Member of The Center. The historic exhibit was at The DC Center from September 15 to October 15 and we gave free bilinguals tours. The Washington Blade, Metro Weekly, Washington Hispanic and Adelante Magazine covered the event. We estimate that we reached with the opening reception and the bilingual tours more than 200 people.

December 1, 2006. The World AIDS Day Observance.
The Whitman-Walker Clinic of Northern Virginia invited The Latino LGBT History Project to participate with a bilingual posters exhibit about the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The exhibit was from December 1, 2006 to January 5, 2007 and we estimated that we reached 100 people including LGBT, staff members, students, activists and people living with HIV/AIDS.
June 5, 2005. The LGBT DC Pride Weekend.
La Clínica del Pueblo (2831 15th St. NW Washington, D.C. 20009)
Felix Marquez coordinator of the group Acuarela from La Clínica del Pueblo and The Whitman-Walker Clinic invited us to participated during the DC Gay Pride Weekend with an exhibit focused in the history of the Latino LGBT community. The presentation gave opportunity to the more of 50 Latinas/os LGBT that attended the event to ask questions about our leaders, culture and history.
December 1, 2005. The World AIDS Day. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, Washington, D.C.
Wallace Corbett, Chair of Our Heroes Project invited the Latino LGBT History Project to participated with an exhibit about the Latino LGBTQ history in the HIV/AIDS epidemic at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library. We received a good feedback from our community, members of "Our Heroes Project" and the staff of the Martin Luther King Jr. Library. The exhibit was for one month and we estimate that we reached 300 people.

Lambda Rising bookstore window (Connecticut Ave.)
We presented an historic exhibit of the Latino LGBTQ groups in the DC area, the panels decorated the windows of Lambda Rising bookstore for one month. We have a great feedback from clients, workers and people that walked by Connecticut Ave.We estimate that we reached more than 300 people. This exhibit was sponsored by Lambda Rising bookstore.
April 29, 2000. Millennium March in Washington, DC.
Club CHAOS (1633 17th St. NW Washington, DC)
This was the first time that we presented an historic xhibit of the history of the DC Latino LGBTQ community during the Millennium March, this exhibit was sponsored by Club CHAOS and Gente Latina de Ambiente (GELAAM). The exhibit was presented at Club CHAOS for 8 hours and we estimate that more of 200 people attended the event. The name of the historic exhibit was "Caminante no hay camino, se hace el camino al andar" -Antonio Machado.
